Mac OS X 10.7.5 Lion bootable USB for Intel PCs

- Copy the .raw file to an USB stick using SUSE Studio Image Writer

http://en.opensuse.org/SDB:Live_USB_stick#Download_ImageWriter

If you have error during copy, eject and re-connect the pen drive. When Windows asks if you want to format it, cancel and run Image Writer again.

If the problem persists, disable your anti-virus software, it may be blocking raw write to the drive.

Another Image Writer for Windows, if SUSE doesn't work

http://sourceforge.net/projects/win32diskimager/

- Boot the USB drive and install.

Default boot loader is Clover

http://www.projectosx.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=2562

If you want to use Chameleon press 1 at boot0 screen

http://forum.voodooprojects.org/index.php/topic,2659.0.html

If you need, use TransMac to delete kexts which are causing problems (System/Library/Extensions) and delete kernelcache (System/Library/Caches/com.apple.kext.caches/Startup)

http://www.asy.com/scrtm.htm

If boot stops right before reaching the installer, or graphics aren't working right, delete video kexts:

ATI = ATI*

Intel = AppleIntelHD* and AppleIntelSNB*

nVidia = GeForce* and NVDA*

You can also move kexts booting with flag -s (single user mode)

fsck -fy
mount -uw /
mkdir /kext_backup
cd /System/Library/Extensions
mv AppleIntelHD* AppleIntelSNB* ATI* GeForce* NVDA* /kext_backup
rm ../Caches/com.apple.kext.caches/Startup/kernelcache
reboot

You need at least one free partition, use Disk Utility (in the Utilities menu) to erase it as Mac Os Extended (Journaled).

If you want to install the boot loader in this partition and you use MBR (not GUID, like if you already have Windows in the HD), it must be a primary (not extended/logical) partition.

Wait for the installation to finish and restart.

- Boot the USB drive, then choose to boot the HD you just installed OS X (not the installer USB again).

- Install boot loader to the HD.

- Install essential and other kexts you may need (network, audio, etc).

FakeSMC.kext is always needed

https://github.com/CloverHackyColor/FakeSMC3_with_plugins/releases

While you don't have power management fixed, you will probably need NullCPUPowerManagement.kext

NullCPUPowerManagement.kext.zip

If you use PS/2 keyboard or a laptop you will need VoodooPS2Controller.kext

https://github.com/acidanthera/VoodooPS2/releases

- When you format the USB drive as FAT/NTFS you'll notice its size was reduced. Just open Disk Management (Administrative Tools), remove the 5 GB partition and create a new one using all the drive.

Connect an USB keyboard or edit the file /System/Library/CoreServices/Setup Assistant.app/Contents/Info.plist and delete the lines

<string>DeviceSection</string>
<string>KeyboardTypeSection</string>

You can use TransMac in Windows or boot with -s (single user mode) and run

fsck -fy
mount -uw /
vi /System/Library/CoreServices/Setup\ Assistant.app/Contents/Info.plist
[position the cursor on the first line to be removed]
dd
dd
 [press enter]

Move video kexts to be able to boot the installed system

http://Olarila.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=1677

In post install you configure boot options and patch video kexts (if needed) before reinstalling them

For dual boot you have to shrink your current partition and create a new one

Hi everyone,

I have downloaded and boot the USB. At the Clover boot loader, I choose the first option to boot Mac OS.

However, after a few white lines outputting on a black screen, I see a white screen with mouse cycling. I can move the mouse around, but it just stay at the white screen.

Can anyone help me to proceed?

Thanks a lot.

Follow instructions on first post to move video kexts from Extensions folder and boot without cache.

Dear,

Thanks for your answer.

I have deleted all the files beginning with AppleIntelHD, AppleIntelSNB, ATI, NVDA under System/Library/Extensions. I found no files starting with GeForce.

I have deleted the cache located in System/Library/Caches/com.apple.kext.caches/Startup too.

It still has the white screen. I wait for 15 minutes. Still nothing happens.

Thanks again.

Hi,

I managed to install Lion on my Hard Drive. But when I try to boot on the new partition it says it can't find any keyboard nor mouse.

I have a IBM X200s laptop

Are there any Kext to install ? If there is, how do I install it ?
