Gertjuh Posted March 20, 2020 Posted March 20, 2020 (edited) Mainboard asus p5kpl-cm, processor core2quad q8200, VGA MSI GX 710. Western digital green sata drive r120GB. Catalina installed on external usb drive. Got soundcard working with voodoo 2.9.2, lan working with AttansicL1eEthernet.kext. rtl8811Au wifi working. Bluetooth working. Used the clover catalina folder from this site as base, I don't know anything of DSDT patching. Cleared kext folder from some unneccesary kexts. Would like to use the onboard sata controller. But when i connect the satadrive to the controller it does not boot from the disk. Diskutility is also not showing the satadrive at setup. Can you help me with this problem? Gertjuh Posted March 25, 2020 Author Posted March 25, 2020 (edited) Finaly solved my problem with the sata controller. Mojave was running fine on this board so i copied IOATAFAMILY.KEXT from my Mojave setup to the clover/kext folder. Very important when installing Mojave or Catalina to this board is the use of the correct Telemetry plugin. Otherwise the setup will restart at the moment when normaly the setup screen appears (3th stage). I used the one from my High Sierra installation. What did i use to install catalina to this board: 1. download catalina 2. create a bootable usb stick, 3. i used clover v2.5 5404, 4. i used the catalina folder from Olarila.com for the basic clover installation. 5. You need to out the IOATAFAMILY.KEXT from my Mojave in your kext folder in clover. 6. At smbios i changed the model to 14,2. 7. choose debug Dsdt an debug kernel and kext patches and make sure PM is NOT selected. Now install Catalina to your drive. Make sure to partition the drive as APFS otherwise updating will not work. After the second stage connect your drive to your Mojave or High Sierra and drop the Telemetryplugin from High Sierra in the right folder (system/library/usereventplugins. After this you can continue the 3th stage of the setup and you will get to the setupscreen. Now enjoy Catalina on this very old mainboard. Catalina for a few bugs! Edited March 25, 2020 by Gertjuh
Gertjuh Posted March 25, 2020 Author Posted March 25, 2020 Don't forget, after an update you have to copy the telemetryplugin again. !!!!!
