Morganemi Posted October 8, 2019 Posted October 8, 2019 Hello everyone! I have successfully performed a clean install of Catalina (the official release) with Olarila using OpenCore. (DSDT patched) Everything works fine so far. However, I cannot seem to get sidecar to work properly. When I enable sidecar to show on my iPad Pro it says “Connecting” and then I get a black screen on my iPad Pro. And my hackintosh recognizes there is now a 3rd display. But nothing shows on the iPad Pro but just black. It goes back to normal after I disconnect sidecar.. Any ideas? Here are my specs: MB: GA Z390 Designare CPU: i9 9900K RAM: 32GB DDR4 3200MHz GPU: AMD Radion 560 2Gb WiFi/BT: BCM94360
nextimelah Posted October 9, 2019 Posted October 9, 2019 I had a similar issue with you. I managed to install Catalina over my Mojave, and when I tried Sidecar it connected to my iPad 6th gen. BUT the screen quality was very blurry and laggy. I read it might have been a HEVC related issue, so i tinkered with some arguments on Whatevergreen and made things worse. It gave my iPad a black screen and after a few minutes, it said "Device Timed Out". To fix this, I re-added the following arguments shikigva=32 shiki-id=Mac-7BA5B2D9E42DDD94 (which was put earlier to solve my missing JPEG Preview on Finder). I'm not sure if this would help you. MB: Gigabyte B360M CPU: i5-8400 GPU: RX 560 iGPU BIOS setting was off I'm still looking for an answer as to why is my current sidecar experience so blurry and laggy.
nextimelah Posted November 3, 2019 Posted November 3, 2019 OK an update. I found this article https://www.tonycrapx86.com/threads/an-idiots-guide-to-lilu-and-its-plug-ins.260063/ and managed to solve my problem after updating my PlatformID I am using a coffee lake cpu that has a dedicated iGPU although I'm using an dGPU. I turned on my iGPU on BIOS and set my Headless PlatformID as 0x3E920003 and shikigva=60. Sidecar now runs perfectly for me.
kalilbispo Posted November 4, 2019 Posted November 4, 2019 Hello Guys, I am using a Kabe Lake CPU and a RX 560 dGPU. When I use WhateverGreen.kext + Catalina I got a black screen on my boot. Why I need to turn on my iGPU to use Sidecar? There is no other way to use Sidecar without changing my GPU set up?

Now, Sidecar is working, not perfectly, but working! My screen sometimes has poor quality and works only wired.

I bought the 9700KF thinking there would be no difference, but it's looking like it actually makes a substantial difference. I've got my hackintosh up and running and everything seems to work, except for Sidecar (connects, but screen stays black).

Dear Ben, Use a generated DSDT on your EFI partition that solves your problem
