Mac-Info - System and Hackintosh Diagnostic Tool for macOS

We are pleased to announce the official release of Mac-Info, a lightweight and modern macOS application designed to quickly identify essential system, hardware, bootloader and Hackintosh configuration information.

Mac-Info provides a clean overview of your machine while also offering advanced diagnostic tools for troubleshooting OpenCore, Clover, hardware acceleration, audio, networking, graphics and EFI configuration issues.

The application works entirely in read-only mode and does not modify your system, EFI folder, NVRAM or configuration files.

Main Information

Mac-Info dynamically detects and displays:

• macOS version

• OpenCore or Clover version

• SMBIOS model

• Processor model

• Physical CPU count

• Logical CPU count

• Audio codec

• Network controller

• Graphics card

• CPU and GPU temperatures when available

• VideoToolbox/VDA hardware acceleration status

Hardware names are resolved using the pci.ids database included with the application, improving the identification of PCI devices across different systems.

Diagnostic Center

Mac-Info 3.2 includes a dedicated Diagnostic Center with tools intended for deeper troubleshooting and technical support.

Privacy Preview

Preview the generated report after sensitive information has been automatically redacted.

Mac-Info protects information such as:

• Serial numbers

• Hardware UUIDs

• MAC addresses

• IP addresses

• MLB and ROM values

• system-id

• Other machine-specific identifiers

Private information is excluded by default.

Hardware Snapshots

Create a versioned JSON snapshot containing the current hardware and system state.

Snapshots can later be compared to detect changes involving:

• Hardware

• Bootloader information

• Boot arguments

• Loaded kernel extensions

• Runtime status

• System configuration

This is especially useful when comparing a working configuration with a system that started presenting problems after an EFI, macOS or hardware change.

EFI vs Runtime Truth

Select an OpenCore or Clover config.plist and compare its configuration against what macOS is actually using.

The analysis can compare:

• Configured and active SMBIOS

• Boot arguments

• Enabled and loaded kernel extensions

• Disabled kernel extensions unexpectedly loaded at runtime

• OpenCore and Clover configuration information

• UEFI driver configuration

This helps identify situations where the EFI configuration does not match the real runtime environment.

Explainable Compatibility Analysis

Mac-Info evaluates important components and presents both the available evidence and a practical recommendation.

Compatibility checks include:

• Bootloader

• SMBIOS

• Audio

• Network

• Graphics

• VideoToolbox hardware acceleration

The objective is not only to show a status, but also to explain why that status was assigned.

Guided Tests

Guided Tests perform a series of safe, read-only checks covering:

• Bootloader detection

• NVRAM accessibility

• Audio configuration

• Network controller detection

• Graphics and VideoToolbox acceleration

• USB information

• Sleep readiness

No configuration is changed during these tests.

Evidence Pack

Mac-Info can generate a structured ZIP package containing diagnostic evidence that can be shared for technical analysis.

Sensitive information is redacted by default, and the package is created using private temporary files and validated before the final ZIP replaces an existing file.

Reports and Hardware Cards

The detected information can be:

• Copied directly to the clipboard

• Exported as a text report

• Refreshed at any time

• Saved as a visual PNG hardware card

Detailed information for each component can also be viewed directly inside the application.

Command-Line Interface

Mac-Info includes an official command-line interface inside the application executable.

Private information remains redacted by default. The optional --include-private argument must be explicitly used when unredacted information is required.

Performance and Reliability

Mac-Info was designed to open quickly and remain responsive during hardware detection.

The initial system information is collected using native macOS APIs whenever possible, while heavier operations such as bootloader, PCI, audio, network and graphics detection are processed in the background.

This release also includes:

• Controlled subprocess timeouts

• Safe cancellation during refresh

• Protection against outdated scan results

• Bounded command output to prevent excessive memory usage

• Secure and atomic report generation

• Strict validation of the bundled PCI database

• Improved handling of unavailable or malformed system information

• Swift 6 concurrency validation

• Extensive automated regression tests

Privacy

Mac-Info:

• Does not track users

• Does not collect analytics

• Does not upload hardware information

• Does not send reports to external servers

• Does not modify the EFI or system configuration

All hardware analysis is performed locally on your Mac.

Some Hackintosh-specific information will only be available when OpenCore or Clover is being used.
