MetalChris87 Posted July 12, 2022 Posted July 12, 2022 (edited) Hello, I have a 95% working Hackintosh for my Surface Book 3 running Monterey and so I thought i'd share for anyone interested. Quick Steps First create the USB by downloading Monterey image and software balenaEtcher to copy the image to USB. Mount EFI drive in Windows. I used Mini Tool Partition Wizard 12 & Explorer++. Copy the unzipped EFI I have attached here to the EFI partition. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Icci7vMsYdnUc57US_Tp0jqBMZW5rBMu/view?usp=sharing Boot to Bios and turn off Secure Boot. And set USB to boot first. USB should boot and install MacOS. Enjoy What isn't working on Monterey is Bluetooth & Camera, there was an issue with the bluetooth kexts used on Big Sur which caused very slow load times and just didn't work. Also the battery read outs are not accurate and so I will be looking into this. kanechauhan Posted December 23, 2022 Posted December 23, 2022 Hi there, was wondering if the dmg used to etch onto the USB is the full ~14GB Monterey DMG from the internet (or however else), or something else entirely? Cheers :)
zukulento Posted May 25, 2023 Posted May 25, 2023 i'm going to attempt install on ventura on my SB2. Can you tell me your SB specs?
MetalChris87 Posted May 30, 2023 Author Posted May 30, 2023 I have a SB3 with the Nvidia chip. For Ventura I have this link Best suggestion for you would be to use one of the pre-made EFI's by Olarila and once you're up and running use this kexthttps://github.com/Xiashangning/BigSurface
ciuhc Posted June 14, 2023 Posted June 14, 2023 I can't get USB-C charging to work. Any idea why? USB-C drives mount just fine...
MetalChris87 Posted June 23, 2023 Author Posted June 23, 2023 Must be something in your EFI. Did you use mine or the olarilla ones? or did you get your own? I'd suggest starting again with your EFI Getting started with OpenCore | OpenCore Install Guide (gitee.io) And make sure to include https://github.com/Xiashangning/BigSurface. If you read his page he will tell you what order to set out the bigsurface kext in your EFI. I've never had issue with the USB-C charging. I know there is an issue with the batteries on Surface Book 3. I think the mac os only picks up the battery in the tablet portion of the laptop. And the battery indicator gets stuck around 88percent and then suddenly drops to 60percent or something. So are you confident it's not charging? And I know BigSurface kext is working on getting the 2nd battery to work. Good luck
MetalChris87 Posted August 29, 2023 Author Posted August 29, 2023 For anybody still having issuesReleases · balopez83/Surface_Pro_4_and_Surface_Book_Hackintosh (github.com) I found this page. I have not tested. It says for Surface Book, but who knows it may work for Surface Book 2 and 3. Maybe mix and match using kexts from this and you may find a fix.
