Teophilus Posted March 29, 2022 Posted March 29, 2022 Recently upgraded from Mojave to Monterey which was working flawlesslyThe only thing I changed was adding a Samsung 980 SSD PRO NVME for the OS drive, after installing all of my software and actually sitting down to do some work I noticed it would beachball every now and then while doing simple tasks like writing in my text editor (IDE), or sometimes doing things would cause video on the browser to stop which means there must be some kind of bottleneck.Original Part List: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/te0philus/saved/WnbXvKI attached my config.plist in case it helps.I have a feeling there some incorrect or missing Kext or Perhaps my SMBIOS is incorrect it's currently set to iMac19,1 which was suggested for the Coffee Lake chipset. config.plist.zip 1

Teophilus Posted March 29, 2022 Author Posted March 29, 2022 I'll try this but it looks exactly like the base EFI I used for the build, the only thing I tweaked was the SMBIOS, i'm sure that iGPU is disabled from the prior Mojave build but i'll double check after I wrap up a project. Thanks for your help!
Teophilus Posted March 29, 2022 Author Posted March 29, 2022 iGPU was enabled, just disabled it and will do some testing. Attaching a screenshot from video proc, showing that there is no GPU, prior to disabling igpu is said integrated graphics Vproc.zip

Teophilus Posted March 29, 2022 Author Posted March 29, 2022 I just installed your recommended EFI folder. Not sure if this is a concern but the CPU isn't coming up in the system info and the GPU isn't coming up for acceleration. Not sure if I need to tweak the SMBIOS or not here screens.zip

Teophilus Posted March 29, 2022 Author Posted March 29, 2022 (edited) Ok, did that and the system is still running quite poorly. Maybe I need to downgrade to Big Sur? Mojave was running flawlessly! Edited March 29, 2022 by Teophilus add details

Teophilus Posted March 31, 2022 Author Posted March 31, 2022 I did some more testing the slowdowns I'm getting is reproducible while playing any stream from twitch.tv. Basically if i'm playing a stream from there everything tends to get unresponsive, typing slows to a halt and eventually the video halts and says player error. This is strange behavior as it did not happen at all on my Mojave build. Attached is the ioReg here is the dump: https://we.tl/t-fbEL4y0GcG PS: My friends in Barbados use you guys for all of their builds so a coffee is def coming your way for helping me out ioreg.zip

Teophilus Posted August 22, 2022 Author Posted August 22, 2022 Hey revisiting this issue, I added that boot arg "shikigva=128" and I'm still having the random lag spikes. To reiterate my hardware worked perfectly with Mojave, I needed to upgrade in order to use new software builds.here are some instances where I see lag spikes: - Chrome: Loading specific pages take longer than they should, if i'm watching a video on a second screen the video would actually stop then when the page loads the video would speed back up to where the timeline should be - Using Chrome/Electron apps like Slack would hag for a few seconds, the system would be unresponsive, beachball then go back to normal afterwards. - Some apps like photoshop/illustrator would hang for a few seconds. While this occurs i'd sometimes hear my cpu or gpu fan speed up as though it's processing something, however i'm not seeing anything crazy on the activity monitor.
