Post install Ethernet, Audio & Video issues

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

I've managed to install ML on my PC a day using the bootable USB method.

Im on the desktop and im able to play around with the OS, but i have no audio, video or Ethernet.

Is this because im still booting to the desktop using GraphicsEnabler=No -f ?

Im aware the video kexts are not installed as i had to remove them from the USB to install ML.

If i do fix the video issue would i be able to boot to the OS without using GraphicsEnabler=No -f ? which in turn will give me my audio and ethernet back?

Ive not installed the Chameleon Bootloader, not sure if i need to and how.

In short, Ive basically just installed the OS by removing the video kexts and i get to the desktop using "GraphicsEnabler=No -F". Im not sure where to go from here and how.

Help would be most appreciated.

Thanks.

You really have a hard time reading and comprehending english dont you? Every line in my post has some details mentioned.

If you need hardware details you can just ask. im not here to get myself spoken rudely to by you or anyone. so watch your manners. i can take my queries to another forum.

If you just answer those questions as is i believe that would sort my issue. My issue is not hardware specific, but a user who doesnt know where to go next from here and how.

Hardware details:-

Asus P5755D mobo

ATI HD 6950 2 GB

Gkillset 2x2 GB ram.

Try reading this, it's in portuguese but you should understand if you use Google Chrome to translate http://Olarila.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=1404

LAN read first link above to find out, I guess it's this

Where do I make this extra folder and where do I get the plist from? Also what do they do?

What is dsdt? Why is chameleon required?

Read install guide and topics in DSDT forum.

I am sorry to barge in on this thread but my problem relates to it and here goes -

Hello Everyone,

I am currently trying to get the nVidia GTS 350M video card going in my ML installation. Even as I was starting with the installation the card was a hit or miss, but if I rebooted enough times it would boot into the graphics screen (Installer/Login). My current setup is ML on a Toshiba A665 laptop with a nvidia Geforce 350M card. So far I have tried and failed with GraphicsEnabler=Y, NVEnabler64, and a rather poor attempt at working out a EFI string (did not even get close to DSDT solution, way to many errors). Your help, anyones help in the matter would be greatly appreciated. Pleeeeaaassseee I am really way over my league with this one, so help a brother out. I was not sure as to what additional information you may require so please ask and I will have it posted, I would welcome if some one wants to remote on to my computer if that helps.

My DEV ID for the card 0x0cb0

Vendor ID 0x10de

Also while booting I do see a line that reads - AGPM Controller Unknown

I currently have a fairly stable Lion 10.7.4 install running. Also if I delete the NVdan50HAL & NVDResman Kext, I am able to boot into ML but with low resolution - 1024x 768.

Thank You

PS -Hello again - I am attaching my ioreg output from a running Lion install if it helps.

I am running chameleon for my boot loader.

Thank You again

Thanks Cassio, the first link really helps.

I also wanted to know if i install Chameleon (the boot loader) , will it detect my Windows 7 install on the other HDD and give me an option to boot into it? or will i have to edit it?

Also once i install Chameleon will i be able to boot to MAC with using GraphicsEnabler=No -f ?

You'll probably need tweaks in video kexts to be able to boot with GraphicsEnabler=yes, see the link about ATI graphics.

About Windows, I believe the best option is installing Chameleon with the boot0md option (use Chameleon Wizard) and set the Windows HD as first in boot order (BIOS).

Select boot0md, select target partition (OS X) and install. It will ask where to install boot0md, then choose Windows HD.

Yes, you can (then use boothfs instead of boot0md), but you may have problems in Windows if it's not in the first HD (BIOS boot sequence).

Ive successfully installed the Ethernet driver and it works fine.

Audio - Ive installed the kext with editing the primary class to match my dev and vendor id. Now when i play a song, it plays, but i hear no sound. plus i cant move the volume bar. ive seen the fix for this and ive yet to apply it.

Im not able to install chameleon using the chameleon wizard, the drop down for target partition is blank. I also tried to use the option to install from 1386 folder and it didnt install.

Was wondering if i could just install the below 3 kexts for video :-

ATIxxxxController.kext

ATISupport.kext

AMDRadeonAccelerator.kext

Not able to find AMDRadeonAccelerator.kext for download though. also i noticed this was not provided in the usb.

Edit -- Will this one work on the HD6950 ? http://www.osx86.net/view/2999-amdradeonaccelerator.kext.html

the download says its for the 5xxx series. would i be able to change the info.plist and update it for my 6 series? are there any other kexts needed?

Do i need ATIFramebuffer.kext?

Ok this is starting to irritate me now, I installed VoodooHDA.kext initially without editing the dev and vendor ID and when playing a file in itunes, the progress bar while playing a song wouldnt move, it would stay at 0:00:00 and i had no output and input devices in sound preferences.

After editing the dev and vendor ID in the kext and reinstalling the kext, i had output and input devices in sound preferences and while playing a song in itunes the progress bar was moving as well like it was playing the song but i couldnt move the volume bar in sound preferences.

now when making changes to allow the moving of the volume bar, i again have no output and input devices in sound preferences and the progress bar doesnt move when playing a song.

About video, I guess you can restore all kexts from backup after doing required configurations (if your card is compatible).

Post your changes in VoodooHDA Info.plist

Try changing iGain and iMix values in prefPane, once you find good values, config in MixerValues in Info.plist or use the app to restore values on startup http://Olarila.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=454

If nothing changes try removing that NodesToPatch entry.

Why it didn't install? Any error messages? You can use an installer pkg http://Olarila.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=70

I don't know about the video, I use nVidia. Look here http://Olarila.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=736

Yippie! Got Audio working by removing the Nodes to patch entry :D

Now, Video is remaining.

As i didnt get a confirmation earlier, i wanna know if i need Chameleon for video to work?

Im getting options now to install chameleon, once i moved those files from my windows ntfs drives to the mac drive. Its able to detect the target partition now. So i can install it.

But just to let you know, I've already installed all the video kexts:-

ATI6000Controller.kext -- Got a HD6950

ATISupport.kext

AMDRadeonAccelerator.kext

ATIFramebuffer.kext

But it gets stuck on the following screen when i boot without graphicsenabler=no

Did you read that topic about ATI?

I understand that after tweaking the kexts you need GraphicsEnabler=yes and maybe AtiConfig=[framebuffer name].

Those are Chameleon features, so yes, you need Chameleon, unless you use an enabler kext or other boot loader with graphics enabler feature.

So you're saying if i boot from USB using "GraphicsEnabler=Yes AtiConfig=Cayman" my video should work fine?

I've edited the ATI6000Controller.kext and the AMDRadeonAccelerator.kext to support my Video card.

Ive not installed ATIRadeonx3000 as the video thread says to use AMDRadeonAccelerator.kext for 10.8.

Did you get anything of the image above?
