Catalina on P6T Deluxe v2 ?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I know that I am starting to stretch the envelope with attempting to install Catalina 10.15.6 on the grandpa motherboard P6T Deluxe v2 after successfully installing Mojave :

but here we go... I started with the  "This version of macos 10.15.6 cannot be installed on this computer" error.

FC95-FA32-B54-D-4322-A2-CF-2-DA539920-DA

Which I fixed through changing the SMBIOS of the Catalina USB ( EFI/CLOVER/config.plist) to iMAC14,2 in Clover Configurator.

But now I am getting, 2 minutes before the end of installing Catalina, "An error occurred while preparing the installation.Try running this application again"

* So I added the EmuVariableUefi  ( Clover Configurator -> Install Drivers -> DRIVERS UEFI 64 Bit -> EmuVariableUefi -> Download )

* And I added a patched DSDT.aml (in EFI/CLOVER/ACPI/Patched)  :

.... But I am still getting the  "An error occurred while preparing the installation.Try running this application again" error message. Does that mean it is the end of the road for me?  Also I notice that the EmuVariableUefi.efi gets copied into EFI/CLOVER/drivers/UEFI even though I have a BIOS based motherboard is that ok?

I will give the restore a try later and test less involved methods first... I have tried 10.15.3 Olarila Vanilla image...

1- I have added my High Sierra DSDT.aml  in the USB
2- I have modified the SMBIOS on the USB with Clover Configurator  to make my pc look like a iMac 14.2 (could this cause a problem considering that my hardware is nowhere similar?)
3- I have added to the USB some kexts (which worked with Mojave) to detect my SATA drives

Doing this allows to bypass the previously reported error message. After an automatic reboot a « data » drive gets created.

1- should I load directly on the data disk?

5460-F5-FA-94-B3-4-B20-9-AA2-56-EDD57161

or

2- should I use the USB to boot on data disk?

185489-DA-E99-A-4-FB0-AC60-BE47-B209-D5-

NOTE: When I boot data disk with the Olarila USB the install resume at 13minutes then when it reaches about 3 minutes left the computer reboots.

Do you have suggestions to make 10.15.3 install work or is it not worth trying based on your experience?

I tried booting without the usb but then I end on that gray screen (picture 1 in my last post). I am not sure what I am supposed to do there. I think I have tried all options but never got the initial setup screen to show up.

For those who might be interested to try the grand daddy P6T Deluxe v2 motherboard with Catalina 10.15.6 here's my EFI which includes kexts to allow my network card, sound, iMessage and Rosewill RDCR-11004 Data Hub to work with fully detected SATA drives EVEN while the BIOS is set to run as RAID (Note: The hard drive on which I install Catalina is not in RAID).

I am also including my DSDT even though it wasn't needed for the install.

The SMBIOS is for a MacBookPro 14,2.

In order to successfully install Catalina I had to disconnect all other hard drives except the one SSD on which I was installing Catalina. After the installation is fully working then I was able to reconnect all my drives (including Windows 7 & Windows 10 drives) including drives that were set in RAID0.

Also during the whole time I had my GTX680 AND GTX260 installed on the motherboard (I use my old video card gpu for modest acceleration of some tasks under windows such as video conversion...).

Dunno if anyone is still using the P6T Deluxe V2 (or P6TD Deluxe) in 2025, but I managed to get Sequoia 15.7 installed.  With OCLP, the system still runs really well, better than expected.  Everything works except sleep (which I could never get working on any version of MacOS/OSX).

Specs:

CPU: Intel i7 980X Extreme Edition (Gulftown)
RAM: 24GB
Graphics: nVidia GeForce GT 710 2GB
WiFi/BT: Fenvi (FV-HB1200)
USB: Inatek USB3.0 PCIe
SMBIOS: MacPro6,1
