Experiment: black screen after verbose on Vega 56

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

Hello! I am doing some experimenting with Big Sur installed on an external drive. No matter what I try I cannot get past the black screen after all the verbose. I am using (I believe) the latest kext builds too. OC 0.6.0 of course, and I'm not sure what else to try! Here is a link to my EFI. I am running a i7-8700k with a Sapphire Nitro+ Vega 56 8GB card with no issues on Catalina. My motherboard is a MSI SLI Plus Gaming z370.Please let me know what you think.

Please note that Big Sur is installed on an external HDD image that I cloned from parallels

Oddly enough now I am getting hit with this line and no black screen:

IOConsoleUsers: gIOScreenLockState 3, hs0, bs 0, now 0, sm 0x0

I noticed on Catalina this line is also the last to load before I am dumped to the desktop. Not sure why I can’t make it to Big Sur desktop

Hey - I think my cloned image was the issue — I followed your guide with your image and IT WORKS FLAWLESSLY! so thank you for that. Gonna donate another 5$ or so now!!!!!!! As always I appreciate your help and what you do!
