so i already have a working virtual box catalina, but i want to image the olarila drive. can i basically create an image off my external copy , then rename it to vdmk or vhd then mount it as attached storage to my existing vm and choose it as the primary boot drive?

i have not seen any software so far to image the afps drive yet. (other than disk utility)

this is doing what carbon copy cloner does.  what i am wanting to do is create a disk file itself and make a vmdk to attach to virtualbox. i think i can do it via disk utility via image from drive and save to desktop and rename.   i tried as dvd/cdr but did not work

i ended up using this to make a catalina image for kvm/qemu.. it is not bad.

I will see if it will update to big sur when the final version comes out.

I may go back to the mac os ; but right now it boot in sleep mode each time, i think have to use my external install to boot it. It did not do it until i tried enabling sleep.

Do you have any ideas?

thanks

is there a way to reverse this thing, other than restoring a back up?

it did not start until i ran that .com powermangement thing.  after that it starts off not awake on boot. to fix i have to use my external install

oh. that was on the ssd. the vm is fine. . the sleep issue is for the install i did on my internal ssd. after i ran that power management thing , it always boots to not awake.  i then use my back up i made to then boot it up. ( but on its own it will not boot)  I have to check for CSM. it is already in the boot config.

i will have to check. but it was fine before i ran that power management thing.   i think it is easier to have a VM because you can just copy it and save it some place. if any issues just bring it back.

Still same thing. it says wake failure; but boots fine via the external drive. then i eject the external.

i even copied the efi folder from the external and did not work.

uploaded the files here-  https://filebin.net/2uwp8e108csw0873
