laudou Posted December 18, 2019 Posted December 18, 2019 (edited) I am trying to install Catalina 10.15.1 on Intel Xeon E5 2609 V3 ES QEYV 2.0GHz 6Core +Asus X99-AII +GT710 but I cannot boot with the usb. Booting ends up on the infamous prohibited sign. I am using fake cpuid Haswell E (according to Intel specs). I also tried booting with the other various versions of Haswell fake cpuid but with no luck. I also tried using the DSDT created for my other two X99 builds but I still could not boot. I should mention that I am using the X99 Clover folder. Any suggestion? Thanksusbhangs.pdf When using a back usb 2 port I get this error message? apfsmodule.pdf Edited December 18, 2019 by Guest

laudou Posted December 18, 2019 Author Posted December 18, 2019 Hi Of course, you are right. I tried using the usb 2 ports on the front panel but I did not think about using one on the back. Your solution worked right away. I wonder if you may ask a question not related to this topic. I have another build of which the ethernet port does not work in OS X but works all right under Windows X. Under OS X, I get a "cable not connected" message. Thanks again

laudou Posted December 20, 2019 Author Posted December 20, 2019 Hi I was able to install Catalina 10.15.1 on my build. But after following all the usual steps, installing Clover 5098, replacing the Clover folder with the X99 folder and repairing permissions, the new installation does not boot. I tried booting with and without a fake cpuid, with and without the dsdt you provided me with for my two other X 99 builds, but I always end up with the prohibited sign. I am attaching screenshots of the window visible just before the prohibited sign. Can you help, please? Thanks Beforesmall.pdf Prohsmall.pdf

laudou Posted December 20, 2019 Author Posted December 20, 2019 Hi What do you mean by using a working EFI folder? I tried using the EFI folder of the installation usb drive but id did not work. Do you mean using a working EFI folder from another X99 build? Thanks

laudou Posted December 20, 2019 Author Posted December 20, 2019 Hi Do you mean that the usb insatll EFI should work on the HDD? I tried it with no success but I will try it again. Thanks
laudou Posted December 21, 2019 Author Posted December 21, 2019 Hi I tried using my usb install EFI on my HDD but I ended up with the same result: prohibited sign. Same window as the screenshot sent earlier before the prohibited sign appears. Of course, I can boot with the usb installer. Complete mystery to me. Thanks

laudou Posted December 21, 2019 Author Posted December 21, 2019 Hi I have no problem booting with the usb installer. AS a matter of fact, I was able to install Catalina 10.15.1 on a HDD. But the problem is that the freshly installed HDD does not boot, no matter what EFI I use. I first used the X99 EFI folder but it would not complete boot; instead it ended up with the prohibited sign. Then I used the EFI from my working usb installer but the final result was the same. After seeing this last verbose "apfs_sysctl_register:1176: done registering sysctls." then the prohibited sign appears. I have no idea what is wrong with my HDD. I even tried using the Mojave EFI which I have on a SSD on the same computer but it failed to boot. Thanks

laudou Posted December 22, 2019 Author Posted December 22, 2019 Hi I was trying to install Catalina on a second drive on my computer because I was afraid that updating from Mojave 10.14.6 to Catalina 10.15.2 would mess up my drive. But I eventually did the automatic update of my SSD. Everything was done very smoothly without any problems. I even updated to 10.15.3 beta. And, surprise, after updating my SSD to Catalina 10.15.3 my second HDD started booting normally with Catalina 10.15.2. I know it sounds unbelievable but I am reporting the facts I observed. Thanks again.
