Help with OpenCore EFI – i5-3470 + RX 560 4GB – Extremely Low Resolution and OpenCanopy Not Showing

Hi, I would like some help with my Hackintosh configuration.

My hardware is:

• CPU: Intel Core i5-3470 (Ivy Bridge, 4 cores / 4 threads)
• Motherboard: B75 chipset
• RAM: 16GB DDR3 1600MHz
• GPU: AMD Radeon RX 560 4GB GDDR5 128-bit, Baffin
• GPU Device ID: 1002:67EF
• Monitor: 1440x900, connected through HDMI
• Bootloader: OpenCore
• Windows: The RX 560 works normally in Windows at the expected resolution.

macOS versions tested

I have already tested:

• macOS Catalina
• macOS Big Sur
• macOS Sonoma
• macOS Sequoia

The same display problem happens with all of them.

Main problem: extremely low resolution

When macOS boots, the display is extremely small/low resolution. It does not properly fill my 1440x900 HDMI monitor.

This happens even though the RX 560 works correctly in Windows.

I would like to know whether this is most likely:

1. An OpenCore configuration problem
2. A WhateverGreen/graphics configuration problem
3. A framebuffer/connector problem
4. An RX 560 BIOS/VBIOS compatibility problem
5. A problem with the HDMI output
6. Something related to macOS not properly initializing the RX 560

I would also like to know whether there is a way to force or correctly configure 1440x900 HDMI output during the macOS installer and after installation.

Second problem: OpenCanopy

My OpenCore EFI also does not show the graphical OpenCanopy interface.

OpenCore boots, but instead of the graphical picker, I get the basic text interface.

I would like to know exactly what is missing or incorrectly configured for OpenCanopy, including:

• OpenCanopy.efi
• Resources folder
• Image resources
• Font resources
• config.plist settings
• Driver configuration
• Any other required files

Current EFI

I do not currently have a known-good EFI.

I generated an EFI using OpenCore Simplify, but it has the problems described above.

I am using OpenCore, not Clover.

I can provide my current EFI, config.plist, BIOS settings, screenshots and OpenCore logs when I have access to the computer.

AVX2 limitation

I understand that the i5-3470 does not support AVX2.

I was told that Monterey is the latest officially suitable macOS version for this CPU because newer macOS versions require AVX2 in some components.

However, I would like clarification about this because my display problem occurs even with older versions such as Catalina and Big Sur.

I would therefore like to separate the two problems:

Problem 1: RX 560 / HDMI / extremely low resolution
Problem 2: AVX2 compatibility with newer macOS versions such as Sonoma and Sequoia

Is the AVX2 limitation completely independent from the low-resolution problem?

Also, is there currently a reliable patch or workaround for running Sonoma or Sequoia on an i5-3470 without AVX2, or should I stop trying those versions and focus on an older version?

What I need help with

I would mainly like help with these questions:

1. What is the correct macOS version for this hardware?
2. Is the RX 560 Baffin compatible with that version?
3. Why is macOS booting at an extremely low resolution instead of 1440x900?
4. How can I correctly configure the RX 560 for HDMI output?
5. Could the RX 560 VBIOS/BIOS be responsible?
6. What exact OpenCore settings should I use for this GPU?
7. What exact files/settings are required to make OpenCanopy work?
8. Is there a known-good EFI configuration for i5-3470 + B75 + RX 560 4GB?
9. Is there any practical way to use Sonoma or Sequoia without AVX2 on this CPU?
10. If not, which macOS version should I use for the best compatibility?

I do not currently have the computer with me for the next few days, so I cannot test changes immediately. I want to collect the correct information first so that when I have access to the PC again, I can test the configuration properly.
