I can't thank you wonderful people enough. I have Sierra fully working on my Dell Inspiron 660 desktop. It was so painless (I had a little bit of prior knowledge when it came to Clover and such so it was a breeze). I also have it on my main laptop!

welcome

enjoy

I downloaded this and ran it just now with the following flags: -v cpus=1 dart=0 slide=0. I got the apple logo, then the progress indicator filling slowly. Then I got the screen with the circle with the line through it.

Any ideas?

Still stuck. I have a general question. From the output, is it fair to say where it gets stuck is what the problem is? Do I just keep trying different boot settings till I finally figure out the right configuration? Thank you in advance!

If you use -v flag (verbose) you should see boot messages instead of progress bar.

If you get a "forbidden" symbol I guess it's a problem with USB (you should see "waiting for boot device" after a while in verbose mode).

Try settings related to USB in Clover option (inject, ownership, DSDT fixes) and alternate between 2.0 and 3.0 ports if you have both.

my apologies for posting under another sierra install version, this is the one I actually am trying to install.

I have been booting starting with just -v. It got stuck pretty fast.

Then, i booted -v cpus=1. It seems to be getting stuck on my ethernet which is Realtek

I can see by mounting the EFI partition that in clover\kexts\other i have RealtekRTL8111.kext which seems to be the right one from what I can tell by research. I added boot flag kext-dev-mod=1 which led me to believe it would load that kext. I could be wrong, I am a newbie to this.

Here is the latest screen shot from the boot where it gets stuck.

Thanks a lot!

I did what you wrote. Noticed nvidia disabled by dsdt. What patch did you use? And must I remove acpi fixes in clover conf.plist?

Question about audio: I use adummy.kext method. Often AppleHDA.kext is not loaded and even if I see the volume/speaker icon in the menu bar, I have no audio. In system prefs, it is correctly shown "internal speaker" "built-in". I repaired permission for kext folders, rebuilt the cache many time (with kext utility) but still having this problem.

I'm booting with Ignore Cache option in Clover until it will be all ok.

I used applehda patcher and it says I have layout-id 3... and as soon as I installed, the audio was working. After some reboots, no audio. I sometimes replaced applehda.kext with a copy I saved as backup. And audio works again.

Reboot is very often slow. When I click restart, it goes on black screen and wait 10-15 seconds before Toshiba logo appears again...

with nv_disable, of course, I can't reach desktop, because as I wrote I'm using nvidia quadro k3000m as gpu, not the intel hd 4000 (optimus disabled in bios).
