BerndVP Posted February 28, 2021 Posted February 28, 2021 (edited) Hi, So when I saw that it was possible to run an Thunderbolt 3 / Titan Ridge Card in a MacPro 5,1 with a flashed firmware, I thought, nice should try that out on my 'older' system. So I bought a Titan Ridge 2.0 card and flashed the firmware, but when putting it into my system I had no succes System specs: Z77X-UD5H F16J Mod 11 i7-3770K 32GB 1600 mHz DDR3 (Quad Sticks) AMD Radeon Pro WX7100 (PCIEX16 Slot) PCIEX8: Avid HDX Card [Pro Audio Card] or GC-Titan-Ridge-2 PCIEX4: PCIEX4 Adapter to NVMe Drive PCIEX1_1: Sonnet Allegro FW800 PCIEX1_2: Empty PCIEX1_3: Apple Broadcom BCM943602CDP – 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac with Bluetooth 4.2 I was putting the card in the slot labeled PCIEX4, but yesterday I had the idea, why not trying in the PCIEX8 slot. BAM the card shows up on the system. Now, when booting up with an Thunderbolt SSD connected to it the drive is working but HOTSWAP not. If I'm correct you need a SSDT for HOTPLUG to work. But when looking at 'IORegistryExplorer' I see totally other things then in Guides about Thunderbolt I saw. Can you have a look at my system? I attached the IOREG with my default 'professional Audio Card in PCIEX8 Slot' and one with the 'Titan Ridge 2.0' in the PCIEX8 Slot. I put some screenshots in a second zip from the Thunderbolt cards working as it is now NEP2B_Studio_IOREG.zip NEP2B_Studio_Screenshots.zip Edited February 28, 2021 by BerndVP

BerndVP Posted February 28, 2021 Author Posted February 28, 2021 Hi, For the test now, I'm using an 'Sonnet eGFX Breakaway Box 550' with my 'Avid HDX Card' installed in it. Thunderbolt Cable is connected to the 'TB3 Port' closest to the 'DisplayPort'. When booting from a shutdowned system the 'External Box' lights up and when starting my Audio Program that takes advantage from the card inside, isn't recognised. When rebooting the system and starting the software, the card is recognised.

BerndVP Posted February 28, 2021 Author Posted February 28, 2021 Hi, No options in the BIOS, same as the MacPro 5,1 I guess I need to use an SSDT to get HotPlug working. But when I look at other Guides, you need to replace RP05 / RP21 in the provided SSDT but, that I don't see in my IOREGHackinDROM

BerndVP Posted February 28, 2021 Author Posted February 28, 2021 HotPlug works, but only 1 port can be used. When using both, non works. When using this, I see the titan card in my PCI tab, but now my Card is in the list but telling me not having a driver installed. If I disable the SSDTs I can get the Audio Card working

BerndVP Posted February 28, 2021 Author Posted February 28, 2021 Not a problem for me, because it was just to get an PCIe Expansion Chassis. But only problem remains that when the SSDTs are injected the Card doesn't work. BerndVP Posted February 28, 2021 Author Posted February 28, 2021 The Card I'm using is an Titan Ridge 2.0 Card, so that's TB3. The Expansion Chassis is also TB3, the card inside it is still an PCIe 2.0 X4 if I'm not mistaken!

BerndVP Posted March 2, 2021 Author Posted March 2, 2021 Hi, didn't had time yesterday for further testing, I had an recording session so I went for working Thunderbolt without SSDTs. Just needed a Warm reboot for it to work. But Thursday I have time to get more into details

BerndVP Posted March 3, 2021 Author Posted March 3, 2021 I’m going to my studio, so I will try it for you if both ports work without the SSDTs injected.
BerndVP Posted March 3, 2021 Author Posted March 3, 2021 So, Cold Boot 2 ports are connected: Port 1: Sonnet Breakout PCIe Box Port 2: Tb3 to Tb2 -> Tb Harddrive Cold Boot System Boots fine, Then the warm boot, OS loader takes for ages to load the OS, but got stuck at the 100% loading bar.
BerndVP Posted March 3, 2021 Author Posted March 3, 2021 Hi, I attached 2 screenshots from my Avid HDX Card in the Expansion Chassis. One from on my MacBook Pro where it works and you can see it's recognized in the IOREG. The other one is from on the Hackint0sh WITH SSDTs Injected'. I feel it's like not connecting to the correct sub ports. Avid HDX.zip

BerndVP Posted March 3, 2021 Author Posted March 3, 2021 yep, if you use the HotPlug SSDT the Card can't find it's correct driver for some weird reason
BerndVP Posted March 4, 2021 Author Posted March 4, 2021 Hi, If you look at both screen shots you see that on the MacBook Pro you have: DSB1@1 =>IOPP ==>UPS0@0 ===>IOPP ====>pci-bridge@1 =====>IOPP ======>pci11af,ef70@0 (Avid HDX Card) And on the Hackintosh: DSB1@1 =>IOPP ==>pci-bridge@0 ===>IOPP ====>pci-bridge@1 =====>IOPP ======>pci11af,ef70@0 (Avid HDX Card) So I'm feeling there is going something wrong or should be abled to get changed. On real mac you got 'UPS0@0' while on Hackintosh 'pci-bridge@0' Is this something we can get fixed ?
