  1. Thanks! There is another nVidia coming my way to replace this half-broken card I have now. When it also acts up then ATI it will be.
  2. OK, I'm back working on this issue and kind of giving up. I tried disabling metal but it didn't change a thing. Question. What graphics card I need to get, what works best? (I figure my onboard Intel is no good?)
  3. Can't use any GUI tools, screen is not readable. I'm using CLI, I think I just managed to install Lilu ... this shell drives me nuts, why 'cd -' does not take me back for instance?
  4. Thanks. I read up on kext, now I know what it is and how to load them. I'm not sure though if these loaded by hand will be loaded automatically next boot? Usually, in Unix world one needs to edit some conf file to make things stick. But I'll see ...
  5. I have no clue what it is and how to use it, I'm trying to wrap my head around this but so far not much success. I wish there was "Hackintosh for Dummies" for me to read. But I figure I need to get my screen readable first, then I can move forward and start installing Clover.
  6. My nVidia 730 seems a little damaged, it displays artifacts on the screen, using web drivers. However, when I boot SystemRescueCD then there is no garbage on screen. Makes me think if the open source nouveau can do it then maybe I could tweak the proprietary driver. Has anyone done this, is it documented somewhere, is it even possible?
  7. Oh my, finally got past that point. It was my "macOS compatible" KVM switch. After eliminating it input started working. Thanks! Now I wonder what the next problem might be ...
  8. OK, still no cigar. Steps taken. Dell Optiplex 790 with add-on nVidia 730. 1. Flashed new USB stick. 2. Virtual extensions disabled in BIOS, also PXE and WoL disabled. 3. One stick 4 GB of RAM installed. 4. Created a GPT partition table on HDD with no partitions. 5. At bootloader screen set nv_disable=1. 6. It accepts my language choice and then the next screen is unresponsive. Out of ideas ... Maybe there is something in BIOS setup I've got wrong?
  9. Nothing on that screen works, no menus open, no buttons react to a click, as a result Disk Utility is not accessible. I'm going to flash a new USB stick, maybe there is something wrong with it.
  10. Alright, now, almost an hour later it still sits at the same screen and wont respond when I click on Continue button. I read somewhere removing one RAM module may help. Am I supposed to do that? Right now it has 2 x 4 GB.
  11. The lspci is from SystemRescueCD USB stick. I will try and wait. Thanks. Is there anything I need to do to prepare the HDD? It had some sort of W10 preinstall, I never booted it, just erased the partition table, now it looks blank.

Right now it is disabled because an addon card is installed.
  13. Thanks for super fast replies! I'm on it ... Added in 22 minutes 15 seconds: Now I got to the screen when it is asking me to click "Continue" in order to install the OS, but the computer is practically frozen. Mouse moves, but keyboard NumLock for instance does not come on. Is there anything else I should change? My i3 is second gen.
  14. After a number of failed tries I'm asking for guidance. Total noob I am, indeed. I have this Dell 790 here, i3 with nVidia 730. I can boot the install USB, but when the graphics mode is supposed to take over the video output stops and monitor goes to sleep. First question is, I am supposed to boot in EFI mode, right? Second, what version of macOS?
  15. Thanks again. I think I have a PCI AHCI controller somewhere, what experience tells, may it work?
  16. Thanks, thought so. There is no place for add-on GPU. Alright. I have an ASUS PK5-V motherboard (also LGA 775). This one has no AHCI mode for hard drive (some stupid Intel patent issue at the time of manufacturing). Will it work in IDE mode?
  17. Hello forums. I read somewhere HP Elite 8000 is a cost effective hardware for Hackintosh. So I got one, unfortunately it is the smallest size without any PCI(e) slots, lspci tells me I have Intel 4 Series Graphics [8086:2e12]. Did I get a paperweight?
