I currently use a wifi/bluetooth card from a macbook using a PCI x1 adapter. On my motherboard the PCI x1 slot blocks the use of a double slot graphics card in the x16 slot so I have to use the x8 slot. The PCI adapter will not run when placed in any other slot. Fortunately I have never encountered any issues using the x8 slot.
