Z370 Gaming 7, from Clover semi-recent to OpenCore, best approach?
M0001 replied to M0001's topic in DSDT Patch Requests
Okay, done deal. The only thing, after I've installed the created USBPorts.kext, disabled the patch, and removed InjectAll and XUHCI Unsupported, the USB 3.1 devices are not listed any longer. The controller is, but there are no devices. Should I leave the latter kext enabled perhaps? -

Actually, I just want to make sure that if I save a USBPorts kext with this, that I'm not going to knock out those USB 3.1 ports.. (I wonder ... get rid of every single line that is not needed in the .dsl .. lots of reading to do if I want to try!) -

Getting closer. The USB C and red 3.1 USB show up in the System Report, with the devices attached. The controller shows as AppleASMedia3142USBXHCI in System Report. But neither show up in Hackintool. The USB 3 ports on the blue 20 pin motherboard header still list USB3 devices as 480 mb on the 4 port HS USB hub. The PCIe card has a D720200AFI Chip set. Appears to be an NEC Renesas uPD720200 sold as Mac compatible back in the day. There's a 3.0 kext for Catalina. I have not tried it. Send me ICBM-1701.zip IOREG + Screenshot.zip -

...and do I need to do anything special with PXSX 0x00 & 0x01 ASM2142 USB 3.1 Host Controller entries? Patches, renaming, something? In Hackintool, I have two of those plus the usual XHC Z370 Chipset Family controller. I guess I'll find out. USBMap complained about them, but your process is not using that, so let's see what we get The other issue I have is the USB 3 ports are listed, but any devices plugged in do not show up in the list. (Sorry, Sh!TTY USB3 Extension Cable fault) Not Working: (No devices show up at all, list or on an inbuilt hub in System Report) The USB 3.1 (Type C connector) and The USB 3.1 (Red USB 3 Connector) do not work PCIe 2 Port USB 3 Card Front Panel (USB3 internal header on motherboard) Reports as a 4 Port USB 2 Hub (with two ports) Any USB 3 device connected here also are listed as connected to the 4 Port USB 2 Hub So, in effect, none of the USB 3.1 or added PCI USB 3.0 ports work for any device. Would these be the PXSX ones in the USB Controller list? -

I've got those two in there, though my understanding is that leaving (relying on) InjectAll is not a good idea long term. I don't see the PXSX@ needs to be renamed.. anymore. The 3.0 ports are not working, and the USB 3.1 bus that would show in System Report isn't even there. All I see listed are three USB 3.0 bus listings. Not even the 2.0 ones that are usually there. But all the ports that can do HS work as HS, just no SS recognition at all. I also have an additional USB 3.0 PCIe card. It was from a MacPro1,1 - had native USB support there. -

Here is one from Big Sur: USB3 ports are not working. The video has some random green pixels where there should be shading / shadowing .. it looks messed up. See Photos. Trying to use USBInjectAll, so I could do a USB Map, no matter what I did, -uia_exclude_hs uia_include=HS03,HS04 so I could do the rest of them, didn't matter. I made a USBPorts.kext with hackintool, didn't matter. At one point USBMap showed me PXSX@! needs rename RB0something. A weird USB thing is the front panel ports, they're USB 3 types. Plugging in a mouse/keyboard ... they work, but they do not show up on USBMap polling or hackintool USB as a connected HS USB device either. Send me ICBM-1701.zip Photos(1).zip Photos.zip -
How long have you waited? Could it possibly be that since no boot screen shows on video cards that do not have Mac firmware onboard, you're not going to see anything until that second part where the progress line draws across under the Apple logo, and then fades to the login page. Getting to that point sometimes, particularly on first boots after making changes or after finishing with the installer, can take what seems like an incredible amount of time. You may need to use onboard video or something else as a primary display source so you can see what the boot loader is outputting. I have not switched anything here yet, though I'm going to sometime this afternoon.

I've not touched anything yet. The Gigabyte RX 580 I ordered came today. So in theory, I should be able to just drop that in? Though I imagine it's not going to show me the boot screen, so I'm going to use one monitor on the inbuilt video anyway.

Yes, it's Asus, It doesn't seem to matter what brand I've used. I used to get Pioneer drives always since that's what Apple actually used, but I've got a few different ones here. When this started, it never mattered what brand. Seems to me though, that I was able to do something in the shell with a kext or some system function to get that to appear again. I don't recall it being a kextload .. that wouldn't make any sense anyway. But it was something that rediscovered it and didn't mess with the hard drives at all.

OpenCore.. I'm guessing that Apple used an 8700 i5 variant and it's picking up on that, instead of resolving to UnknownCPU.
-
If it's showing as the wrong CPU, though cosmetic I know, can that be fixed the same way by changing whatever one of them is doing it? (Or something weird voodoo gonna happen back there?) As in my 8700K is listed as i5 and not i7. Previously I did have the text at unknown CPU, this isn't exactly unknown, it's just mis-known.

Since 10.12, if I leave a disc in the optical drive and it goes unused for some specific length of time, when you go to access the disc it won't access and the icon will disappear from the desktop after a little while, and the drive is no longer detected. It is not longer listed in the System Report. A reboot is required to get it back. As long as you use the mounted disc, or take it out when you're done it's fine. I'm sure it has something to do with drive sleep, but that's disabled. Though I would rather have it on if possible. I had a shell command that would cause the drive to reintroduce itself at one point, but I didn't save it in any notes. Any insight on this? Drive brand, firmware, doesn't matter.

Got it, replaced the other aml files with this one, machine boots faster than it did ever, I'm cloning the 10.14.1 to an APFS disk and will see if OpenCore will recognize/boot it. What about Kexts that are not needed by my hardware, can I yank those? -
Any suggestions on an okay decent lower price Video Card for a third slot that will be used for tool pallets, PDF manuals, status windows, etc. with Big Sur?

I have an RX580 on the way. Might get a 9900K or whatever the last/highest CPU is available for the Z390 1151, and stick 32GB more RAM in here.. depending on how well the RX 580 works out. I have bought ATI since the GeForce original era. I however, do wish I had waited a tad bit longer so I could have seen that Nvidia support for Mojave was pretty much unlikely to ever happen, as I had gotten a 1080ti and had to resort back to the GTX-650 as it has the native support still there. I thought I did use that 300/400 EFI folder previously. Here is a new Send Me. I have to get a couple few apps upgraded to 64 bit before I go further. (Looking at you, Photo Mechanic, mostly) ..and figure out why 0.6.5 still won't see the APFS container at boot select time. Edit: Actually, scratch that, I don't think that was the right EFI anyway. I needed to reboot and put -no_compat_check in there. Send me iMac.zip -

I can't do Big Sur yet, I need to get a proper ATI video card as I think Big Sur does not have any Nvidia of the native support remaining, and I'm not going to bother with Catalina since Big Sur is current. However, I am booted with OpenCore and here is a RunMe for fine/better tuning. recap: Z370 Aorus Gaming 7 • 8700K • GTX 650 (Kepler) Existing System is 10.14.1 with Clover. Desired goal is 10.14.6 with OpenCore and proper USB configuration. For Note: First I got a lot of AppleUSB20HubPort Disconnect Persistent and figured out that was something to do with the USB being in a 3.0 port. I moved the EFI from the USB to one of the hard disks: Mounted the EFI Partition Renamed the existing EFI as EFI-Clover Placed the OC EFI from the USB and rebooted. For Note:| After moving EFI to HD, I got some AppleUSB20HubPort errors, but no where near as many, and not the other lines followed by them, it booted faster too. (Probably due to not spending all that time resetting the USB port - Attached Screenshot for example texts) My current 10.14.1 is on HFS+ Apparently I'm not supposed to have been able to have that without having cloned it myself after installing to APFS, which I did not do, So.. .when I try to update to 10.14.6, the installer quits because the volume is not APFS. I cloned the Boot Volume to another drive, converted that to APFS, and OC does not see it at boot time and according to the latest OC discussions I should not need to have the apfs driver in Drivers, as OC supports it internally (So they say, but I don't think this is true - I will worry about this after OC is Fine Tuned and APFS driver is added) For Note: iMacPro1,1 worked best with Clover, and the CPU type was edited to show 8700K. iMac19,1 and MacPro7,1 had various problems for me. With the current OC boot, I had to select iMac19,2, but it says I have i5 processor, not i7. To boot OC with Nvidia legacy/native supported card GK-107 GTX-650 2GB, you need to [X] EnableWriteUnprotector Send me iMac.zip IOReg & SysRpt done manually.zip Error Examples for Reference.png.zip -

I gather, you're saying run the thing from the booted Big Surprise image... to get the dump. ... though I intend on running 10.14.6 in the end, via updating the 10.14.1 that is installed. Though since OpenCore can run back to 10.4.3, shouldn't I be able to run what I have? I don't have any special kexts in the system for Clover, all what Clover uses is in the EFI. I'm not ready to give in to Big Surprise yet. It's inevitable, as I'm sure FCPX and / or DaVinci at some point are going to tell me to Get Lost or Get Real. -

It's not having anything to do with the OpenCore 300-400 folder, or even with one that I started to do and actually set some things. With MacPro7,1 I get "This Version of Mac OS X is not supported on this hardware" I changed it to iMacPro1,1 ... that didn't work. I added -no_compat_check and that didn't work. I changed it back to MacPro7,1 ... and The Colonel had an aneurysm. See attached screenshots. IMG_2050.jpg It all works fine from the Clover that's included in the Send-Me in Post #1. Also here's DDST F4 and F5 dumps from Clover if it's of any use. Photos.zip origin.zip -
I want to swap my boot loader and update the OS to 10.14.6, from 10.14.1 afterwards. Is running the app now, with the current setup, a way to start, or should I start with OpenCore and do that then, for fine tuning? Here's my current package anyway: I've been using your Vanilla guide as reference, though you tend to like iMac19,1 or such for Coffee Lake, I have the 8700K and back when I did this in 2018, I had to use iMacPro,1. Since the GTX 650 nVidia has 'native' support in 10.14, I'm just going to stick with that for the time being as I figure out what my next approach will be. I've taken the UUID, Serial # and such from my existing setup and used those values for OpenCore as I figure my iCloud stuff is working, I don't want to hassle with that again. Then as a bonus, though another thread, I'd like to understand a bit about OC'ing and this motherboard, and just kick it up a little. It's got a liquid cooler on it now, but I'm not looking to go balls to the wall bleeding edge or such. In the old days it was a matter of some multiplication and a couple entries. Now? .. it's kind of voodoo, until I understand it. But keeping that in mind, I want to make sure that OpenCore is good with any of that too, or needs to be adjusted along the way as well. Send me iMac-Pro.zip

Greetings, Over these years, this is the best, the most organized, and straight forward OSx86 resource, hands down. I'm going to convert to OC, and go from 10.14.1 to .6 on this one.. (Fun thing with OC is I can go back and re-make the original machine I did in the DTS era .. Intel 915 and a stick of Celery!) Send me iMac-Pro.zip

...has anyone done the testing on an Aorus Z370 Gaming 7 board yet? As in, are the results from one system good for another with the same motherboard, aside from where the keyboard/mouse are plugged in? Also, in the port limit, are ports on a connected hub included? If so, I guess I'd be trading hub ports for on board ports.
