Problem with VoodooHDA....maybe? [ SOLVED thanks cassio!!]

Post by fairlyodd »

Not having major issues with my sound other than the fact that I only seem to get half volume. If I crank it up all the way and turn up the volume on my speakers I get a major drop off in sound quality, it muffles the sound and gets a bit distorted.

I am using my onboard sound chip which is the Realtek ALC887 Codec/High Def Audio/2/4/5,1/7.1-channel.
I tried using the modified voodoo kext you supply here, but the voodoo panel always shows my output as digital. I do not have that feature on this mobo (GA-M68MT-S2). I only have the standard Blue/Head Phones Pink/Microphone Blue/Speaker jacks. Not sure how to fix the volume issue I tried adding the flag <key>VoodooHDAEnableHalfVolumeFix</key>
<true/>
to my voodooHDA.Kext /info.plist file,but at reboot I lost my sound and the volume icon was grayed out.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks :)

Try setting IOPCIPrimaryMatch in Info.plist [Local Link Removed for Guests]

Now for the stupid question. How do I find out what the PC ID of my audio chip is? I created one for my video card in EFI Studio and added it to my org.chameleon.boot.plist file and got my video card working like a charm, but I can't seem to do the same for my audio chip. There seems to be no option for my audio chip in EFI Studio.

Okay this is the information in my voodoo.HDA.kext/info.plist

<key>VoodooHDA</key>
<dict>
<key>CFBundleIdentifier</key>
<string>org.voodoo.driver.VoodooHDA</string>
<key>IOClass</key>
<string>VoodooHDADevice</string>
<key>IOMatchCategory</key>
<string>VoodooHDADevice</string>
<key>IOPCIClassMatch</key>
<string>0x04030000&0xffff0000</string>

<key>IOProviderClass</key>
<string>IOPCIDevice</string>
<key>IOUserClientClass</key>
<string>VoodooHDAUserClient</string>
<key>MixerValues</key>
<dict>

I have no idea if this is the correct string for my onboard chip.

Device 10de:03f0 This is the device ID and Vendor ID for my onboard chip taken from System Info, I looked it up on the PCI Device Repository, but there was no reference to my PCI ID.

It shows the correct chip: Name: MCP61 High Definition Audio

No other information is available for this chip.

Okay I replaced the information in the info.plist using my DEV id and Ven id:

<key>IOPCIPrimaryMatch</key>
<string>0x10de03f0</string>

When I reboot I have no sound and my speaker icon is grayed out. Not sure why but that is the case.
